Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 25th, 2026 (Version 2.3.0)

1. General Information

This privacy policy informs you about the collection, processing, use and disclosure of your personal data when you visit our website, when you receive emails from us, and when you visit our pages on social networks.

Remember that your use of our Services is at all times subject to our Terms of Service, which incorporates this Privacy Policy. Any terms we use in this Privacy Policy without defining them have the definitions given to them in the Terms of Service. Our Privacy Policy applies to all users of our Services and esp. the Techmap website: techmap.io (as well as any subdomains or product-related domains such as map.techmap.io).

1.1. Data Controller

The data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data on this website is: Techmap GmbH, Welfenstr. 32, 76137 Karlsruhe, Germany (hereafter referred to as "Techmap", "we", or "us"), registered with the commercial register at local court (Amtsgericht) of Mannheim under HRB 737926 (VAT-ID: DE334736730), represented by the managing director Dr. Jörg Rech, email: privacy@techmap.io.

We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we are not required to do so under Art. 37 GDPR and § 38 BDSG. You can address all data protection matters to the email address above.

1.2. Legal Bases for Processing

Depending on the processing activity, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Art. 6 (1) a GDPR (consent) – for analytics and conversion tracking cookies.
  • Art. 6 (1) b GDPR (contract or pre-contractual measures) – for answering your enquiries and performing our contracts.
  • Art. 6 (1) c GDPR (legal obligation) – e.g. for statutory retention periods under commercial and tax law.
  • Art. 6 (1) f GDPR (legitimate interests) – for the technically secure and stable operation of this website.

Where cookies or comparable technologies are stored on or read from your device, § 25 (1) TDDDG (German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act) additionally requires your prior consent, unless the storage is strictly necessary to provide the service you requested.

1.3. Server Log Data

When you visit our website, the following data is automatically recorded by the web server:

  1. IP address of the requesting computer
  2. Date and time of the request incl. Time zone difference to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
  3. Content of the request (specific page)
  4. Access status/HTTP status code
  5. Amount of data transferred in each case
  6. Website from which the request comes
  7. Browser, language and version of the browser software (User-Agent)
  8. Operating system and its interface

This data is technically required to deliver the website and to ensure its stability and security. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in the secure and reliable operation of this website. The data is stored for a maximum of 30 days and is then deleted automatically. This processing takes place on the infrastructure of our hosting provider (see section 3.1).

If you contact us via email, we will store the information you provide in order to respond to your request (Art. 6 (1) b or f GDPR). We delete this correspondence once it is no longer required and no statutory retention period applies.

1.4. Recipients of your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We disclose it only to processors acting on our documented instructions under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR, where we are legally obliged to disclose it, or where you have consented. The processors we currently use for this website are named in section 3 of this policy.

1.5. International Data Transfers

Some of the providers named below are established in the USA or process data there. A transfer to a third country only takes place where one of the safeguards of Chapter V GDPR applies: either an adequacy decision of the European Commission under Art. 45 GDPR – in particular the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), which replaced the invalidated "Privacy Shield" in July 2023 and applies to providers self-certified under it – or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to Art. 46 (2) (c) GDPR, supplemented by additional technical and organisational measures.

Please note that, despite these safeguards, US authorities may under US law be able to access personal data, and that enforcing your rights against a recipient in a third country may be more difficult than within the EU. Where processing is based on your consent, that consent also covers the transfer within the meaning of Art. 49 (1) (a) GDPR.

1.6. Your Rights

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR) – to obtain confirmation whether we process your data and a copy of it.
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) – to have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) – to have your data deleted where one of the listed grounds applies.
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR).
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) – to receive data you provided in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection (Art. 21 GDPR) – to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on Art. 6 (1) f GDPR. Where data is processed for direct marketing, you may object at any time without giving reasons.
  • Withdrawal of consent (Art. 7 (3) GDPR) – to withdraw any consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. The lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal remains unaffected.

To exercise these rights, please contact us at privacy@techmap.io. You can withdraw your consent to analytics and conversion tracking directly via (also available in the footer of every page).

Right to lodge a complaint (Art. 77 GDPR): You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. The authority responsible for us is:

Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Baden-Württemberg
Lautenschlagerstraße 20, 70173 Stuttgart, Germany

1.7. Children’s Privacy

We do not aim any of our products or services directly at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information about children under 13.

1.8. Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, accidental or unlawful destruction, alteration, or unauthorized disclosure. This website is delivered exclusively via TLS-encrypted connections (HTTPS).

2. Cookies and Consent

Cookies are small files that are stored on your device and contain certain settings and data that is exchanged with our system via your browser. 3. Data processing on our website

3.1. Hosting (Vercel)

This website is hosted on the infrastructure of Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA ("Vercel"). When you access our site, your request is served by Vercel’s content delivery network, and the server log data described in section 1.3 – including your IP address – is processed there on our behalf. Requests from Europe are normally served from Vercel’s European edge locations.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in the reliable, performant and secure provision of this website. Vercel’s Data Processing Addendum, which meets the requirements of Art. 28 GDPR, forms part of our agreement with Vercel. Insofar as data is transferred to the USA, this is based on the safeguards described in section 1.5. Further information can be found in Vercel’s privacy policy.

3.2. Google Analytics

Only with your consent. If you agree in our cookie banner, this website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google"), which may process data on behalf of Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA.

Google Analytics uses cookies (see the table in section 2.1) that allow an analysis of your use of this website. The information generated – in particular the pages visited, the time and duration of the visit, the approximate location derived from the IP address, the referring website, and technical data about your browser and device – is transmitted to and stored on Google servers. In Google Analytics 4, IP addresses are shortened within the EU before any transfer and are not stored in full.

We use this data to understand how our website is used and to improve it. The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG. You may withdraw your consent at any time via . We have accepted the Google Ads Data Processing Terms, which constitute the data processing agreement required by Art. 28 GDPR, for the Google account used for this website. Google LLC is self-certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; in addition, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses apply (see section 1.5). Data collected via Google Analytics is retained for a maximum of 14 months and is then deleted automatically.

Independently of our cookie banner, you can prevent the collection and processing of your data by Google Analytics by installing the browser add-on available on the Google Analytics Opt-out page. Further information is available in Google’s privacy policy. If you are signed in to a Google account, Google may associate your usage with that account; you can review and change this on the Google My Ad Center page.

3.3. Google Ads Conversion Tracking

Only with your consent. If you agree in our cookie banner, we also use the conversion tracking of Google Ads, provided by the Google entities named in section 3.2. It records whether a particular action on our website – such as clicking one of our contact buttons – followed a click on one of our ads. For this purpose Google may store a cookie on your device (see section 2.1).

We use this information solely in aggregated form, to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and to calculate the total number of conversions. We do not receive any information that allows us to personally identify you. The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a GDPR and § 25 (1) TDDDG, which you may withdraw at any time via . The transfer safeguards described in section 1.5 apply.

3.4. Fonts and Other Content

We do not load any fonts or icons from third parties. techmap.io uses the standard fonts already installed on your operating system; map.techmap.io uses fonts and icons (Roboto, Material Icons, Font Awesome) that are hosted on our own servers. No connection to a font provider is established.

Our pages contain links to external websites, for example to social networks, partner sites or sources we cite. Following such a link transfers data – in particular your IP address – to the operator of the target site. We have no influence over that processing; please refer to the privacy policy of the respective provider. Merely displaying the link on our page does not transmit any data.

3.5. Map and Company Search (map.techmap.io)

On map.techmap.io you can search for companies by technologies and regions on a map. For this purpose the following data is processed:

  • Map tiles: The map images are loaded directly by your browser from the tile servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John’s Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom ("OSMF"). In doing so, your IP address, the requested map section and the address of our website are transmitted to the OSMF. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in displaying an interactive map, which is the core of this service. The United Kingdom has an adequacy decision of the European Commission (Art. 45 GDPR). Further information can be found in the privacy policy of the OSMF.
  • Approximate location: To center the map on your region, our hosting provider Vercel (see 3.1) derives an approximate location (city level) from your IP address. We only use it to position the map and do not store it on our servers; it is stored in the MapCenterPoint cookie on your device (see 2.1). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR; our legitimate interest lies in showing you relevant results without asking for your location.
  • Precise location: Only if you have already allowed map.techmap.io to access your location in your browser, we use the position provided by your browser to center the map. We do not ask for this permission ourselves. The legal basis is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) a GDPR, which you can withdraw at any time in the settings of your browser.
  • Searches: The technologies and regions you search for are processed on our servers to answer your search. Our search database is operated on our behalf by Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL, 38 Avenue John F. Kennedy, L-1855 Luxembourg, in data centers in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. We keep statistics about searches (search terms, number of results and duration) without your IP address or other data that identifies you. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) b and f GDPR.

3.6. Information About Companies (map.techmap.io)

map.techmap.io shows information about companies and their locations: company name, address, website, links to the company’s pages on job portals, the technologies mentioned in the company’s job ads, and statistics about these job ads. For some locations we also show the general business phone number as stated in job ads. We do not publish email addresses. We collect this information from publicly available job ads, job portals and company websites.

This information generally concerns legal entities. If a company is run by a natural person (e.g., a sole proprietorship) or its name contains the name of a person, the information can be personal data. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) f GDPR; our legitimate interest, and that of our users, lies in making publicly available information about employers and the technologies they use searchable. We do not publish the names or personal contact details of employees or contact persons.

If information about you or your company is incorrect, or if you object to its publication (Art. 21 GDPR), please contact us at privacy@techmap.io. We will correct or remove the information.

4. Data Processing on our Social Media Pages

We operate pages on the following social media channels. Visiting these pages takes place on the infrastructure of the respective provider and is subject to that provider’s privacy policy; we have no influence over the data processing carried out there.

When you visit our social media pages, data is processed both by us and by the responsible social media provider. For the processing of visitor statistics made available to us by the provider (so-called insights), we and the provider are joint controllers within the meaning of Art. 26 GDPR.

The respective provider of social media assumes the data protection obligations towards you as the user, such as information on data processing, and is the contact person for your rights. This follows from the fact that such provider has direct access to the relevant information on the social media page and the processing of your data. However, you are also welcome to contact us if this should become necessary and we will then forward the request to them.

When using Facebook, Instagram, X or LinkedIn, data may also be processed outside the EU. The transfer safeguards described in section 1.5 apply.

With our social media pages, we can communicate with you and provide you with interesting information. We may receive further data from you through your comments, shared images, messages and reactions, which we then process to answer or communicate with you. If you use social media on several end devices, a cross-device analysis of the data can take place. Furthermore, the providers of social media pages may also use cookies and tracking technologies to analyse and improve their services.

Data processing takes place with your consent or for the purpose of answering your enquiry (Art. 6 (1) a, b GDPR) or on the basis of legitimate interests in improving the services and presentation to the outside world (Art. 6 (1) f GDPR).

5. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time with future effect. The current version of the Privacy Policy is always available on our website. Please check the website regularly for updates.
